Our early beginning was the establishment of a company called Wattar Frerres. It was formed in 1928 by Mr. Abdul Wahab Wattar. Since its inception it has been involved in obtaining distributorship and agencies of major foreign brands. Its main concentration was on photographic items, cinema production items, radios, records and turntables.
In 1930, Wattar Frerres built their first record making factory in the Middle East, in the city of Aleppo (north Syria) to cover the need of the markets in the region for such product. However, and due to the lack of materials because of the World War II, the factory was closed and the company started importing records from UK, France, and USA. In 1965, Mr Assaad Wattar in Damascus formed Wattar Trading Co a subsidiary of Wattar Freres. Wattar Trading Company portfolio includes exclusive rights for the distribution of photography items, such as Varimex, Merkuria, Ilford, Paterson, Asahi-Pentax and Yashika and Audio & Video equipment.
Between 1969 and 1971, Wattar Trading Company was the official distributor of AKAI and Pioneer audiovisual products.
From 1990 until 2007, the company expanded to be the official distributors of Sharp, Casio, Quadral, Show, Sekaku and Boston Acoustics, JBL, Harman/Kardon and Infinity. |
